My first ♥: Music

Where: Backyard
Temp: 73 degrees (and Saturday was 101?...crazy weather)

Music, music, music! I use to spend every moment at the record stores (Tower Records I miss you!) rummaging through the aisles and listening to some tunes on the headphones. My weekends were spent at concerts, even if the bands weren't that great. Now I scour the internet searching for new artists, a new sound that'll enduce the snoopy happy dance or just shake me to the core. I have neglected my love of music far too long. It's time that I take a moment and indulge a little.
  1. William Fitzsimmons (folk): He just finished up his tour and I missed out on seeing him perform here locally. It would have been great to see him live.
  2. Coconut Records (indie pop): I'm a sucker for indie pop music & Rushmore. A solo project that actor & former drummer of Phantom Planet Jason Schwartman started in 2006. His first album Nighttiming is one of my fav's and Davy is just as good. Check out the Schwartz on HBO's Bored to Death
  3. Portishead (Trip Hop/Electonica): I know, so 90's, but I had too! I think I was 17 (eons ago) when I first saw the PBS special of their live performance at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC. From that day on, I was hooked. Their album Live at the Roseland NYC is a really great live album. Accompanied by turntables and a 35 piece orchestra, Beth Gibbons voice is intensified with raw emotion. The beats are hipnotic and haunting. Check out the DVD for the live performance. You won't be disappointed.
  4. The Phenomenal Handclap Band (soul/funk):
  5.  Sleeping at Last (christian rock):
  6. She & Him (indie folk rock): Zoey Deschanel + M. Ward=dynamic duo of catchy end of summer tunes
